Our map collection dating from the late 1800's-1940's comes from recycled books we've stumbled upon in our travels. The first book that started our collection we actually found twice. What, "Found Twice?" Yes, we were traveling on the 127 Yard Sale and had seen this very worn book with no cover at one of our favorite stops (The Poor House Pikeville, TN). Sorting through the pages we had decided to pass. It was significantly old, I'm talking late 1800's old, and we had believed it to be no good. So, another year passed and we were planning our travels again and the first thing that came to mind for us both was the old book of maps. We said, "I wish we had bought that book of maps last trip." Upon completing our 127 adventure The Poor House was our last stop. We both agreed to search for the book thinking it was no longer there, and knew exactly where to look. Sure enough it was sitting in the same place. I wondered how long it sat before we first saw it a year before. We snatched it up without hesitation even though we had no clue if it were to be a success. With very little expectation we brought them into the line up and to our surprise the old maps came through. It made my jaw drop to see this kind of response for an old book with no cover. Thus, began the search for more maps and our collection grew. We love bringing someone back to their hometown, seeking someone's town where their heritage lies, or just their home state.
